Set your schedule from the manual
There is no single cleaning or service interval for every heat pump. Find the filter inspection, replacement, and professional maintenance schedules for your model. Keep those dates with your installation paperwork and warranty information.
Make a simple record with the date, work performed, observations, and next check. Record model and serial numbers while they are accessible, along with your installer’s service contact.
During normal use
- Inspect accessible filters at the manufacturer’s recommended interval; use our cleaning guide alongside the manual.
- Keep furniture and curtains away from indoor airflow paths and avoid blocking ducted supply or return grilles.
- Observe changes in comfort, sound, drainage, or fault indicators. Note the conditions rather than opening the equipment to diagnose them.
Before winter and after storms
Check the area around the outdoor unit from a safe position. Maintain the clearances specified by the manufacturer and keep snow drifts, leaves, and vegetation from obstructing airflow. Do not use tools on the coil or chip ice from the unit.
Ask your installer to address roof runoff, snow shedding, drainage, or recurring ice concerns. An improvised cover or enclosure can interfere with airflow. Review how your heating system and any supplemental heat protect the entire home.
Before the cooling season
Review the manual’s cooling-mode instructions and filter schedule. Look for visible indoor leakage when cooling begins. If drainage appears abnormal, arrange service rather than dismantling the drain system.
Arrange professional service
Follow the manufacturer’s service schedule. Ask what the visit includes for your model: internal cleaning, drainage, controls, electrical connections, and performance checks may require different work. Keep the service report and clarify which follow-up tasks are yours.
